PTFE piston rings provide lubrication-free gas-tight sealing of compressors for dry gases at high temperatures and piston speeds. Applications: dry-running and refrigeration compressors, pumps for abrasive and poorly lubricating liquids, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.

KLINGER Kempchen (Oberhausen, Germany) is a manufacturer of industrial gaskets, packings and expansion joints of the KLINGER Group (KLINGER Kempchen catalogue).

Virgin PTFE is not suitable for piston rings – they are made only of filled PTFE (carbon, glass, bronze, graphite), the right compound is essential for their function. Ring joint overlapping, angled or straight depending on the application.

PTFE materials (catalogue, printed page 237): 6.3001 virgin PTFE (highest chemical resistance, but tendency to cold flow), 6.2509 PTFE + 25 % carbon (low wear, bearings, piston rings of dry-running compressors), 6.3105 PTFE + 25 % glass (considerably less cold flow, valve rings, V-rings), 6.3231 PTFE + 60 % bronze (lowest cold flow, high thermal conductivity, limited chemical resistance), 6.3303 PTFE + 15 % graphite (very low friction and wear).
