Radial shaft seals, fabric-reinforced and cassette seals
RADIAL SHAFT SEAL
Radial shaft seals, also known as oil seals, separate two liquid or gaseous media around rotating shafts with a low pressure differential.
A radial shaft seal consists of a rubber (elastomer) part, a metal insert and a garter spring that provides the correct radial load on the sealing lip. The elastic outer diameter compensates for thermal expansion and the surface roughness of the housing bore. In some designs the spring or the metal insert may be omitted. Special versions can have a stainless steel spring, a metal outer case, a metal sleeve or a hydrodynamic lip pattern. They can be double-lipped or springless.
FABRIC-REINFORCED SEAL (SEVANIT)
Sevanit is a rotary shaft seal used to seal around rotating shafts of larger and large diameters (rolling mills, mills, marine gearboxes, wind turbines, etc.). For shafts up to 380 mm in diameter, standard radial shaft seals according to CSN 9401 are recommended. Unlike radial shaft seals, sevanit seals have no metal insert but only a fabric-rubber reinforcing ring. Thanks to this flexible reinforcement, a sevanit seal is easy to handle even when installing it in large-diameter housings. Like a radial shaft seal, it is fitted with a garter spring.
CASSETTE SEAL
Cassette seals are special shaft seals for very demanding conditions. Their complex design provides optimal protection against water, dust, mud and other coarse contaminants. They are characterized by high resistance and long service life. This generation was developed in response to constantly growing requirements for longer service life, functional reliability, environmental protection and easy installation. They are used to seal axles and wheel hubs of heavily loaded vehicles and industrial gearboxes.
