The O-ring is the most widely used type of seal because it requires little space and is very easy to install. With correct groove design and a suitable material, it performs its function reliably over the long term in both static and dynamic use within the temperature range permitted for the rubber material concerned.

Ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM)
EPDM O-rings are used mainly for sealing hot water and steam, or wherever their excellent resistance to ozone and ageing is beneficial. Compared to NBR O-rings they can also be used at lower temperatures (-40°C to + 130°C, special versions -50°C to +140°C). They are not resistant to hydrocarbons. Peroxide-cured grades are resistant to brake fluids.
