An axial seal is a seal mounted on the shaft and rotating with it, sealing with an axial lip against a perpendicular counterface. Compared to V-rings it has the advantage of a firm fit and is used mainly in places with heavier contamination. Temperature resistance depends on the rubber used, NBR up to 100°C , FKM up to 200°C.
